Had a great experience with Alter Ego. I had two pairs of second hand jeans that didn’t fit me well - the first were too short after someone else had altered them and ruined the shape of them in the process; the second pair fit perfectly everywhere except the waist. They were both great jeans so I didn’t want to get rid of them. The tailors at Alter Ego let the hem on the first pair out in a way that returned them to their original shape, and let out the waist of the second pair. Now I have two excellent pairs of jeans that fit me perfectly, and even though it was complicated to fix the second pair and therefore not cheap, it still cost me about a third of what the jeans would have cost brand new. Honesty had such a lovely experience at Alter Ego. Highly recommend! ❤️ First visit I had the neck/shoulders of a dress altered. The staff member was very helpful and explained how it would turn out and drew a picture before accepting the job. It turned out exactly as they described! Cost around $50. Very reasonably priced. Dress was light coloured and happy to report it came back without any marks (mentioning since I was worried about this based on other reviews). My second visit was for another dress where I thought the lining had shrunk after I washed it. They gave it an iron, which fixed the issue. Didn’t charge me for their time either! Honestly the team here are fantastic and don’t ask any questions or anything intrusive. Stop by when you need something tailored! They had express options too. ~ Pesco P

I have so many pieces of clothing not being worn in my wardrobe because they were ripped or not quite right..but had avoided taking them to an alteration place because it seemed like too much hassle - I can assure you that Alter Ego make it the complete opposite! I took in a pair of pants to have the elastic replaced and in 30 seconds they had my measurements and then two days later they were ready to collect (ahead of schedule!). Such a nice experience and I would recommend this business to anyone!! It’s also a really beautiful space they have created! ~ Nicole L

Took 3 items last week to get fixed/altered. 1st item was simple but not too simple as it’s vintage faux fur, and cannot at all see where the hole was. Wouldn’t even be able to tell where it was before 2nd item was a just slightly cropping a button shirt, is exactly how I wanted and perfect. 3rd item was a XXL button down shirt that I love and wanted to be much small. They managed to make it look exactly the same but now it’s pretty much a medium! Will always go back, was very fair price and didn’t take long at all! Very happy ~ Noah O

5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I brought my suit pants to Nicole at ALTER EGO Alterations around midday, needing urgent assistance for my son's university graduation. By 2:30 pm, I received a text saying they were ready! WOW! 😮 Nicole’s efficiency and skill are incredible. She saved us from needing to buy a new suit and did an outstanding job with the trousers. The cuffs of my favourite heavy winter jacket were badly worn and frayed, and one of the elbows had a hole in it. The wizards at alter ego were able to restore the jacket, slightly shorting the cuffs and merticiously darning the hole at the elbow. I will now get many more years use out of the garment, all for a very reasonable price, considering the amount of work and the skill required. Great to know I have a local ally so I can restore my old clothes, instead of having to bin them :) ~ norman c

Bought a couple of sweatpants online that were unfortunately to big even though they were a standard fit, after a bit of browsing Alter Ego stood out due to there reviews. Thought i'd give them a try and the experience has been great. They listen to what you want done to your clothes and will keep asking you until you're happy with it. Couldn’t sing higher praises. I had a tight timeframe and the alterations were ready even before required ! Then, I was unfortunately unable to pickup on Monday due to an emergency and (even though closed on Tuesday) the staff went above and beyond, sending someone over to the Brunswick store, so I could wear my items to an event this evening. Amazing experience at Alter Ego this week. I had a designer dress that needed to be taken in last minute. Nicole did a fantastic job doing this making sure the dress maintained its look whilst ensuring the fit worked for me. I took my wedding dress in for some alterations and not only was it a quick service but staff were absolutely lovely to deal with, the price was much cheaper than what I was expecting, and the work done was exactly what was promised and the dress fits like a glove. I’ve had clothing alterations done at Alter Ego in Brunswick West quite a few times and they have always provided an excellent, quick service at a really reasonable price. I’ve had sewing done at other places over the years and they were nowhere near as good as Alter Ego. Nothing is too much trouble and the staff are really helpful and friendly. The best alterations place I’ve ever been to! Well priced, such a fast turn around if required (2 days, otherwise usually a week if no fast turn around required) and always incredibly friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend these guys. I took in my grandmother’s old coat that was way too big for me and they took it in so I can wear it 🥰 very special. They did such a good job I went back with numerous other projects for them - I love the idea that we can alter our existing clothes rather than turfing them out (to end up in landfill) and buying new ones. I just picked up about 7 items that they altered and can report amazing quality and service. Beautiful attention to detail (eg all the zips finished properly) and really lovely people to deal with. Took five items to ALTER EGO’s Brunswick West location and received amazing service on top of a fast turnaround. Since I had a vague idea of what I wanted to do with my items, the process of figuring out lengths and tapering was collaborative and actually very fun! I would highly recommend! ~ Zai A

I had around 10 items adjusted including hems taken up and down, shoulder pads added to a jacket, a dress turned into a skirt with the pockets moved and the legs taken in to be less baggy on some pants. Great value and work! Now I can get some wear out of them instead of selling or giving away. ~ Millicent S
